APA:  Transforming Everyday Spaces into Places for Play

    Presenter: Naudy Martinez, KaBOOM!

People don't just want great parks and playgrounds; they also want a complete reimagining of what urban spaces and places look like. Unfortunately, getting enough play time can be especially difficult for children growing up in economically challenged communities. Playability, the extent to which a city makes it easy for all kids to get balanced and active play, is one way to address this.

Through initiatives like PLAY 60, Play On and the Playful City USA program, KaBOOM! is encouraging communities to devise creative and easy ways for kids and families to participate in play. This presentation will show examples of projects that create opportunities for kids to play along the way and make city streets more complete, communities more equitable, and kids and families healthier.
