Do you know where the water goes after you flush? Perhaps all too well. But if you are in one of the 43 communities in the Boston Region served by MWRA, you may never have to concern yourself with that question. The Deer Island Waste Water Treatment Plant is the nation's second largest, cleans the sewage waste stream generated within a region with a combined population of 2.5 million. Protecting against the daily onslaught of sewage that had once contaminated waters and fouled beaches, Deer Island now helps welcome visitors to the restored richness and beauty of Boston Harbor and its islands.
MACP members are invited to join a scheduled tour of the Deer Island Wastewater Treatment Facility on Friday, October 16. Beginning at 12:30, the tour is expected to last approximately 2 hours.
RSVP required by Friday, October 2 in order to register for security clearance. Friends and family are welcome (children must be age 12+ to attend the tour), however space is limited. RSVP by sending an email to: macp@nitscheng.com
