Description of "2017 Florida Legislative Preview”
1000 Friends President Ryan Smart, Policy and Planning Director Thomas Hawkins, Board Member Emeritus Lester Abberger, and others will discuss key growth management, environmental and related bills that are likely to be considered during the 2017 Florida legislative session, and how this impacts state and local governance and planning in Florida.
SPEAKERS
Ryan Smart
As President of 1000 Friends of Florida, Ryan works with the Board of Directors to implement the policies and programs of the organization. For two-and-a-half years, Ryan managed the Florida Conservation Coalition (FCC).
Thomas Hawkins
As Policy and Planning Director, Thomas Hawkins addresses land use and transportation policy at the local and statewide level for 1000 Friends of Florida. With a focus on plan analysis, advocacy and litigation, Thomas supports 1000 Friends’ work to help Florida build better communities.
Lester Abberger of Tallahassee is past chair of 1000 Friends of Florida and is a Board Member Emeritus. He is chairman of The Trust for Public Land (TPL) Florida Advisory Council, serves on the TPL National Leadership Council, is chair of the Florida Conservation Campaign
