Consulting Planners of Massachusetts presents: What Factors Impact Access to Public Spaces and for Whom?

In this interactive workshop invited speakers Vasileios Milias and Roos Teeuwen will present their research using artificial intelligence to identify which factors influence access to public space across different populations. Attendees will further their understanding of what kind of information is needed to describe and evaluate the urban environment; AICP members can earn 1.0 CM credit for this activity.

Target 7 of the United Nations’ 11th Sustainable Development Goal states:

By 2030, provide universal access to safe, inclusive and accessible, green and public spaces, in particular for women and children, older persons [and persons with disabilities].

Through their research, Milias and Teeuwen work to achieve this SDG and answer a variety of questions—

  • What kind of information do we need to describe and evaluate the urban environment? What information is needed in order to address the UN goals?
  • What information is already available, how do we collect it, and what is still missing?
  • How can this information support urban planners, designers and policy makers in practice?

The workshop will be held virtually with registration capped at 35 participants. All CPM members are invited to register and are given first pick for available seats; if your firm is a CPM member, you are a CPM member and can register now. If you aren't a member yet, we invite you to join CPM today. Register to attend this event by Monday, May 22, 2023.
